At pickup, you’ll receive a private go-home lesson showing you everything your dog learned and how to maintain the training at home.

Our 2 Week Therapy Dog Development Board and Train is designed to help prepare your dog for the manners, obedience, confidence, and reliability needed for therapy dog work. During this immersive 2-week program, your dog stays with one of our professional trainers and receives daily, structured training focused on practical obedience, calm public behavior, distraction control, and the foundational skills commonly needed before taking the Canine Good Citizen Test.
The Canine Good Citizen Test is a 10-skill test that promotes good manners in dogs and responsible dog ownership. Many therapy dog organizations require or strongly recommend CGC-level obedience before a dog can begin therapy dog certification or evaluation. While this program does not certify your dog as a therapy dog, it is designed to build the obedience, focus, and handling skills that help set you and your dog up for success.
This program is ideal for dogs that are 5+ months old, generally friendly, and already have a stable temperament, but need more consistency around distractions, people, dogs, public environments, and everyday situations. Dogs should have no serious behavioral issues, reactivity, or aggression.
During the 2-week program, your dog will work on:
- Sit and Extended Sit
- Down and Extended Down
- Loose Leash and Off-Leash Walking
- Come on Command
- Greeting Manners, including not jumping
- Waiting Politely at Doors and Gates
- Waiting Politly for Meals
- Place and Extended Place
- Calm Behavior Around People and Dogs
- Training Around Real-World Distractions
- Confidence Building in New Environments
- Handler-Focused Obedience
- Skills to Help Prepare for the Canine Good Citizen Test
This program combines the convenience and intensity of our 2 Week Board and Train with the goals of therapy dog preparation. Your dog will receive consistent, professional training while being exposed to controlled distractions, new environments, people, and practical obedience scenarios.
At the end of the program, you will receive a private one-on-one go-home lesson where we show you everything your dog has learned, how to properly handle your dog, how to maintain the training, and how to continue preparing for the Canine Good Citizen Test and future therapy dog work.
