Therapy Dog Preparation

The groundwork a therapy dog needs

Before a dog can visit hospitals, schools or nursing homes, it has to be calm, polite and reliable around people and distractions. Our 2 Week Therapy Dog Board & Train works on exactly that: practical obedience, greeting manners, public behavior and focus, plus the foundational skills commonly needed before the Canine Good Citizen test. Your dog lives and trains with one of our trainers for the two weeks, and at pickup you get a private go-home lesson. All prices are on the plans and pricing page.

Good to Know

Therapy dog training questions

Will my dog be a certified therapy dog at the end?

No. The program prepares your dog for future therapy dog work and builds the foundational skills commonly needed before the Canine Good Citizen test. Certification and registration come afterwards, through a therapy dog organization.

Which dogs is this program for?

Dogs with a friendly, stable temperament and no serious behavioral issues, reactivity or aggression. If you are not sure whether your dog fits, call us and we will talk it through.

How old does my dog need to be?

At least six months for lessons and for board and train. We do not run a separate puppy program; for a younger puppy, the Online Puppy Training Course on our plans and pricing page is a good place to start.

What happens at pickup?

You get a private go-home lesson that shows you everything your dog learned and how to maintain the training at home.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Payment plans are available. Call us today to learn more about payment options.
