Where Lucy started

Lucy is a Cavapoo puppy. Her family had had her for a couple of months, and her owner put it plainly: Lucy was acting up so badly that there were regrets, and the family was seriously wondering if they would have to find her another home.

That is a hard thing to say about a dog you brought home on purpose. Instead of giving up, her owner called Off Leash K9 Training Tyler and signed Lucy up for our two-week board and train.

The training journey

Lucy trained with Patrick, who sent the family a video every day. Her owner could hardly believe what was on the screen: Lucy was actually responding to the commands.

At the end of the two weeks, Patrick brought Lucy back to the family's home and taught them the commands, so they could keep working with her themselves. Her owner summed him up this way: "you can tell he loves dogs."

What actually changed

  • She is much calmer. Calmer is the first thing her owner mentions about the dog who came home.
  • She does her commands. The same commands Patrick taught the family when he brought her home.
  • She holds her place. This is the one that impressed her owner most. Lucy sits or lies on her place and stays there, even when her owner walks away, until she is told she can get up.

★★★★★

“I have a Cavapoo puppy (Lucy) we had for a couple months and was acting up so bad that I was having regrets, seriously wondering if we were going to have to find her another home. […] She is so much calmer, does her commands, I am most impressed with the “place” command and she sits or lays there even if I walk away until I tell her she can get up. It’s like, is this even the same dog??!!!”

What it changed for her family

This family started out unsure whether Lucy could stay. Now her owner asks, "is this even the same dog?" and writes that there is no doubt they did the right thing, for Lucy and for themselves. Lucy is home with them, and they know the commands so they can keep working with her.

Why Lucy's story matters to us

Having second thoughts about a puppy is not easy to admit, and Lucy's owner said it anyway. We are glad, because someone else in the same spot may read this. At Off Leash K9 Training Tyler, that first call is where Lucy's turnaround began, and two weeks later she was back home with a family who knew how to work with her.

Before and after

Lucy, a Cavapoo puppy, was acting up so much that her family wondered if she needed another home. After two weeks of board and train with Patrick, she came home much calmer, doing her commands and holding her place.

Lucy did our 2 Week Board and Train. The one-week and two-week programs are both on our board and train page, and if you would rather train alongside us, see our obedience lessons. Every program and price is on our plans and pricing page. Our programs start at six months old, and our FAQ covers what to do with a younger puppy.
