Where Mimi started

Mimi is a six-month-old hound mix. Her owner describes her as sweet and smart, and also a puppy who was sometimes sure she was in charge of everything.

Her family had never used a trainer for any of their dogs, and her owner told us she was nervous about it. A friend of a friend pointed them to Off Leash K9 Training Tyler, and they signed Mimi up for our two-week board and train.

The training journey

Mimi trained with Patrick. Before any training started, he asked about Mimi herself, what the family was struggling with, and what they hoped she would learn during her stay. Her owner noticed, and thanked him for it in her review.

While Mimi was with us, her family got daily updates. The progress videos were their favorite part. In her owner's words, they "were fun to watch but also helped us understand what Mimi was learning and why."

At pickup, Patrick walked the family through every one of Mimi's new commands and made sure they knew how to keep working with her at home.

What actually changed

  • She listens better. Her owner could see the difference right away at pickup.
  • She is more confident. Not only was Mimi listening better, she seemed surer of herself too.
  • Her family has skills they can keep using. Mimi came home with better manners, and her people came home knowing how to hold on to them.

★★★★★

“Her trainer, Patrick, was wonderful from the beginning. He took the time to ask about Mimi (thank you), the things we were struggling with, and what we hoped she would learn during her stay. […] When we picked her up, Patrick walked us through all of her new commands and made sure we knew how to continue working with her at home. […] But she came home with better manners, more confidence, and skills we can actually continue using.”

What it changed for her family

Her owner was honest about it, and we like that. Mimi is still Mimi. Nobody turned a six-month-old hound puppy into a robot, and nobody tried to. What changed is that the family now has a puppy with manners and the know-how to keep building on them. As her owner put it, Mimi learned a ton, and so did they.

Why Mimi's story matters to us

A lot of the families we meet at Off Leash K9 Training Tyler have never worked with a trainer before, and sending a young dog away for two weeks is a big step. Mimi's story is what we want that step to feel like: questions asked up front, updates every day, and a pickup session where the owner learns as much as the dog did.

Before and after

Mimi, a six-month-old hound mix, came to us for a two-week board and train with a family who had never used a trainer. She went home listening better and more confident, and her family went home knowing how to keep it going.

Both the one-week and two-week programs are on our board and train page; this family chose the 2 Week Board and Train. If you would rather train alongside us, see our obedience lessons. Every program and price is on our plans and pricing page.
